Are animals messengers from spirit?

My friends, Happy Full Beaver Moon! It's the second to last full moon of the year. The enchantment of the animal kingdom is calling us during this full moon and is waiting to share messages with those who are ready to listen.

The idea of animal totems or spirit animals is emphasized in a lot of traditional and indigenous belief systems. These animal allies support and shield us on our spiritual path, acting as guides. These animal allies serve as guides, offering support and protection on our spiritual journey.

As my sister and I drove down the snowy road this morning, I saw a large bird flying over the field, and I realized it was an eagle. Now, eagles are very rare where I am currently in Canada, so I knew this was a special symbol, and I knew at that moment that it was a sign from Spirit that I needed to pay attention to.

Animals are venerated as spiritual guides because they are thought to have unique gifts and insights. For example, in Native American traditions, animals are associated with particular attributes that relate to our personalities and life paths. The majestic eagle represents perspective and vision, while the astute owl represents discernment and knowledge. The devoted guardian wolf is a great example of perseverance and cooperation, imparting important life lessons.

Not only can animal signals manifest physically in your life, but they can also appear in your dreams and meditation. Have you been paying attention to the animals, (and insects), that have been showing up in your life?

I have always been intrigued by animal signs and the symbology behind them. Animal Speak by Ted Andrews is one of my go-to books on animal totems, and I highly recommend it if you would like to dive deeper into animal symbology and totems.

But how can you work with the magic of animals now? It can become a natural practice for you if you are ready to listen. Here are some easy steps to start creating an awareness of what messengers are being sent your way.

1. Pay attention to the animals that randomly or consistently show up for you. Spirit may be sending you a message by sending an animal messenger to you.

2. Write down what animals are showing up, and when they are showing up for you. Take notice if there is a pattern.

3. Using your own intuition, what does this animal mean to you? First impressions - write them down.

4. Use online resources or books to dive deeper into the meaning, and see if the messages behind them are aligning with something in your life right now.

It's important to keep in mind that Spirit sometimes utilizes enigmatic means to communicate with you the messages you need on your spiritual path; animals are only one of many messengers.
